Gods and pharaohs lived by the rule of Ma'at, and judges were thought to be her priests. Land was valuable and there was aways arguments about land. Criminals were either tried by the local magistrate or a group of local people like a workers' court. People didn't use lawyers, they spoke for themselves. Some punishments were ears getting cut off, being enslaved, being tied to a post and getting beaten.
