The most popular sport in Switzerland is soccer, or Football as they call it in Europe. Almost every village has a football club. Children usually begin playing football at age four. Not many women play football. Football is huge in Europe, and Switzerland is no exception! Football takes over the television, newspapers, and radio. There are many different leagues, including two national level teams, and many regional level teams. Our type of football is not played in Switzerland at all!!

Another sport played in Switzerland is ice hockey. Ice hockey isn't as popular as soccer, but is still widely played.

Another sport in Switzerland is volleyball. Volleyball is popular here in America, mostly with women, and it is the most popular team sport among women in Switzerland.

Some more sports are basketball, hand ball, gymnastics and athletics, and running. Some sports are only played in the winter, like skiing, mountain climbing, snow boarding, and many other winter sports. These sports are very popular, because of the mountains and all the snow.
Switzerland loves their sports and most of them are played all over the world.
