Olav
Nils Olav was a king penguin at the
Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland. He was bestowed one of the most
prestigeous miliatary honors in the history of the Norwegian Army. The
Penguin was appointed to the honorable rank of Regimenatal
Sergeant Major. Nils Olav is the first to hold the rank. In 1982 Nils
was a corporal, in 1987 he was a sergeant, in 1993 he became Regimental
Sergeant Major, in 2005 he became Colonel-in-chief. The Norwegian Army is having a bronze
statue of Nils Olav made for the king, Herald, of Norway. The penguin
recieved a badge at the ceremony. Unfortnately, the original Nils
Olav died in 1989. He was replaced by a two year old penguin also named
Nils Olav.
