Cricket, dog racing, and rugby are not common sports in Iowa, but they are in Ireland. Cricket is like baseball, dog racing is like horse racing, and rugby is like football and soccer combined. So really the sports are not that uncommon, they are just different forms in their country.

Cricket can be won by scoring more runs than the opposing team. Cricket has 1 or 2 innings depending on what rules you decide on before the game begins. For cricket you need a special ball, 2 wickets, 3 wooden posts, pads, gloves, a field, helmets, and shoes.  You need a field that is about 100-160 yards. There are eleven players go to the outfield, two players on the other team are batting, and the rest of both of the teams  wait to go in, sitting off the field. One outfielder stands a ways away behind one of the wickets. Another person stands directly behind the wicket to be the catcher. When you are hitting it is pretty much the same as baseball. One difference though is that you carry the bat with you while you run, and you can stretch the bat  out to touch the base and score. Getting out in cricket is kind of like baseball. You can catch a hit ball, and if you're pitching and hit a wicket and make it fall over, you get the person out.

Dog racing can be compared to horse racing. They are very similar  except dog racing uses dogs and horse racing uses horses. Dog racing like horse racing's objective is to have your dog run the fastest around  a track to win. Greyhounds are usually the dogs that are raced because of their speed and their very muscular body. The dogs start in a gate and when the gate goes down the race begins. The race is done when all the dogs cross the finish line, and the winner is determined by what dog crosses the finish line first.

The object of rugby like many other sports is to score the most points as possible. You score by kicking, carrying, or passing the ball in the scoring zone at the far end of the field and that is worth five points. Like football rugby  has goal posts to score 2 points after you score a goal. One thing that is different though is that you can't tackle someone if they don't have the ball. Like soccer if the ball goes out of bounds you have to throw it in by keeping your feet planted and throwing the ball over your head and in rugby they have penalty kicks and if you make it it is worth three points. Also in rugby you can only substitute players if there is a injury and there is no separate offense or defense.
