Childhood
He was born on November 6, 1861. His hometown was Almonte,
Ontario, Canada. Most of his childlife he, his sister Annie, and
his brother Robbie lived with their Uncle Peter. In Almonte, he
liked to play the game Duck On a Rock. When he was eight years old his
family moved to Grand Calumet. His parents died when he was nine years
old.
He was the oldest of the three children, and his family were Scottish
immigrants. James went to a one room schoolhouse called Bennie's
Corners.
