1-24-2008

The A team visited the Franklin gym in Boone and came away with an impressive 55-31 victory. This win gives them an 11-1 record for the year which is a new school record. Casey Kasperbauer had another outstanding all around game with 25 points, 6 rebounds, 8 steals and 6 assists. Chance Cleveland played his best game of the year contributing 8 points and 10 rebounds. Brad Christensen tossed in 8 points, Hayden Ostrich 6 points, Steven Dressman and Kevin Duhrkopf each had 4 points.

Thanks for a great season. Keep working hard and you all can achieve great things!

The B-team played their final game of the year and ended their year with a win 42-23. Leading the Tigers was Jeremy Grimsman with 8 points while Will Norgaard added 7 and Adam Grimsman and Jordan Sibenaller scored 6. Sibenaller grabbed 6 rebounds while Kyle Magill, Nick Cullen and Matt Kots pulled down 3 each.

“We came out slow but finished strong. The boys played a great last game to cap off a very successful season,” said Coach Simmelink.

The C-team also played their last game and came up short 19-26. Kyle Magill led the scoring with 6 points, Isaac LaRue and Zac Hoaglund added 4 points each, Tristen Hardiman with 3 and Shawn Buck scored 2. Magill grabbed 7 rebounds and Justin Lee pulled down 5.

1-17-2008

The Carroll 8th grade boys A team traveled to Atlantic and came away with a 49-34 victory over the Trojans. Casey Kasperbauer led the way with 24 points and 8 steals, Hayden Ostrich added 8 points, Brad Christensen 6 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals and Kevin Duhrkopf had 4 points. Carroll is now 10-1 with their last game next Thursday at Boone.

The B-team traveled to Atlantic to take on the Trojans and won 44-24. Leading the Tigers in scoring was Jeremy Grimsman and Will Norgaard with 10 points each. Jordan Sibenaller, Nick Cullen and Hunter Harmening added 6 points with Kyle Magill adding 4 and Justin Lee with 2. Norgaarad and Sibenaller led the Tigers with 7 rebounds each.

"We started off slow but came on strong in the second half. A lot of people contributed to the scoring which was great to see," praised Coach Simmelink.

1-14-2008

The Carroll 8th grade "A" boys defeated Kuemper 44-19. Hayden Ostrich and Casey Kasperbauer poured in 14 points each. Brad Christensen added 6 points and Chance Cleveland had 5 points and 5 rebounds. Their record is now 9-1 with the next game at Atlantic on Thursday.

The B-team took on cross-town rival Kuemper and won a close one, 32-30. Jeremy Grimsman led the Tigers with 12 points. Nick Cullen, Matt Kots, and Jordan Sibenaller each added 4. Kots lead the team with 5 rebounds with Sibenaller grabbing 3.

“We shot poorly and couldn’t get much going. We came on strong at the end and that’s what counts,” commented Coach Simmelink.

The C-team lost a close one, 24-28. Leading the way was Zac Hoagland with 6 points, and JT Miller and Isaac LaRue with 4 points each. Justin Lee led the team with 6 rebounds with Hoagland adding 5 and Kyle Magill with 3.

“The Knights put pressure on us the entire game and we couldn’t get much going,” added Simmelink.

1-7-2008

The A-team visited the infamous Scranton gym and overcame great adversity to come away with a solid 52-36 victory over Jefferson. Casey Kasperbauer had his best game of the year with 36 points and 5 steals. Chance Cleveland was a monster on the boards pulling down 13 rebounds along with 4 steals. Brad Steffen chipped in 8 points. This puts them at 8-1 for the year, with crosstown rival Kuemper coming up on Monday at CMS.

The B-team traveled to Scranton and came away victorious 54-14. Leading the Tigers in scoring was Jeremy Grimsman with 22 points followed by Jordan Sibenaller with 12 and Adam Grimsman with 6. Nick Cullen, Justin Lee and Will Norgaard added 4 points apiece. Sibenaller and Norgaard each grabbed 8 rebounds. Matt Kots added 4 boards.

“We played extremely well. We had a hot hand and played great defense. I was impressed how they continued to play tough even though of our large lead,” praised Coach Simmelink.

1-3-2008

The A team opened the new year with a nice win over Boone, 48-29. Casey Kasperbauer led the team with 19 points, 5 steals and 5 assists. Hayden Ostrich added 11 points, Chance Cleveland and Brad Steffan each poured in 6 points, while Kevin Duhrkopf chipped in 4 points. This puts their record at 7-1 with their next game coming up on Monday against Jefferson at Scranton.

The B-team took on Boone and won 41-23. Nick Cullen lead the Tigers with 10 points with Jeremy Grimsman contributing 8. Matt Kots added 6 points with Will Norgaard with 5. Cullen grabbed a team high 8 rebounds while Jordan Sibenaller pulled down 7 and Kots grabbed 6.

“After the long winter break, we came out hot and jumped on them early. We let them creep in there at times but came on strong to finish off the game,” commented Coach Simmelink.

The C-team came up short in the 3rd game by the score of 26-34. Issaac LaRue lead the C-team with 13 points. Chris James added 4 each with J.T. Miller with 3 points. Tyler Mattingly, Justin Lee and Tristen Hardiman rounded out the scoring with 2 points each.

“We played really well the first half but had problems in the second. We didn’t get back on defense and they capitalized on it,” said Simmelink.

12-17-2007

The A team ended 2007 with a big win over crosstown rival Kuemper, 53-37. Casey Kasperbauer poured in 19 points with 8 assists, Chance Cleveland added 9 points, and Brad Christensen helped out with 7 points and 9 rebounds. Another solid team performance improves their record to 6-1. Next up is Boone to start the new year.

The B-team improved their season record to 5-2 with a 29-22 win over the Kuemper Knights. Jeremy Grimsman and Jordan Sibenaller led the Tigers with 9 points each. Adam Grimsman added 4 points with Nick Cullen adding 3 more. Jeremy Grimsman led the Tigers with 7 rebounds with Sibenaller close behind with 6. Will Norgaard, Adam Grimsman and Isaac LaRue each pulled down 2.

“We got off to any early lead which helped. Kuemper came fighting back and we held them off,” said Coach Simmelink.

The C team came up just short 26-34. Isaac LaRue led the team with 11 points and 6 rebounds. Justin Lee, Kyle Magill and Austin Smith each added 4 points with Tyler Mattingly and Chris James rounding out the scoring with 2 and 1. Lee added 5 rebounds with Smith and Magill with 2 each.

12-10-2007

The A team suffered its first loss of the season dropping a hard fought contest to Harlan 49-41. We got off to a slow start and got it close but couldn't get over the hump. Casey Kasperbauer led the Tigers in scoring with 22 points and 6 assists, Hayden Ostrich chipped in 8 points and 4 rebounds, while Nick Onken added 4 points and 3 rebounds. Next up is the crosstown rival Kuemper on Monday at St. Lawerence. The Tigers are now 5-1.

The B team took on Harlan and won 29-26. Jeremy Grimsman led the Tigers with 13 points followed by Jordan Sibenaller with 12 points. Matt Kots and Nick Cullen added 2 points apiece. Grimsman led the Tigers and grabbed 7 rebounds while Sibenaller grabbed 5 and Issac LaRue had 3.

“We improved greatly since the first time we played Harlan. We came out ready to play and never looked back. They played well down the stretch and came out on top,” said Coach Simmelink.

12-7-2007

The "A" team completed a sweep of Denison Friday at Adams with a 52-44 victory in another tough contest. Hayden Ostrich and Brad Steffen had season highs. Hayden had 12 points and 7 rebounds and Brad added 10 points. Casey Kasperbauer contributed another complete game with 19 points and 5 assists, while Chance Cleveland had another solid performance with 6 points and 6 rebounds. This win gives the Tigers a 5-0 record with Harlan coming into town on Monday!

The "B" team hosted Denison and came away a winner in double overtime 41-40. Jeremy Grimsman led the way as he scored 16 points with Adam Grimsman with 10 and Jordan Sibenaller with 9. Sibenaller led the team in rebounds with 11 with Zac Hoaglund pulling down 6 and Nick Cullen adding 4. Cullen, Hoaglund and Chris James chipped in 2 points each.

“This was the most exciting game I’ve ever coached. The boys didn’t give up and really worked hard. We again played as a team finding open shots and it paid off,” praised Coach Simmelink.

12-3-2007

The "A" team improved its record to 4-0 with an impressive victory over Jefferson-Scranton 66-46. We started the game with heavy pressure and it worked well. Great team effort once again. Casey Kasperbauer chipped in 22 points with 8 assists, Brad Christensen added 16 points and 10 rebounds despite being in foul trouble most of the game. Brad Steffan and Kevin Duhrkopf had 6 points each while Chance Cleveland had 5 points and 9 rebounds.

A rematch with the tough Denison squad is up next on Thursday at Adams.

The B team took on Jefferson and came away with a convincing win, 43-23. Jeremy Grimsman led the Tigers with 13 points followed by Jordan Sibenaller with 10 while Will Norgaard and Adam Grimsman added 6 each. Sibenaller led the team with 8 rebounds while Matt Kots pulled down 7 and Nick Cullen grabbed 5.

“We jumped on the Rams early and took an early lead. The team really played well together and it showed. Hopefully, we have more games like this to come,” said Coach Simmelink.

11-30-2007

The "A" team had its first home game of the year and played an excellent game defeating Dallas Center-Grimes 56-31. Several players had their best game of the year. Brad Christensen contributed 12 points and 6 rebounds, Hayden Ostrich chipped in with 9 points and 5 rebounds, Chance Cleveland also added 9 points and Steven Dressman had 5 assists, Casey Kasperbauer led the way with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals and 5 assists. The Tigers are off to a 3-0 start with Jefferson up next on Monday at CMS.

The B team hosted Dallas Center Grimes and lost 18-33. Nick Cullen and Jeremy Grimsman led the Tigers with 4 points each. Cullen and Zac Hoaglund each had 5 rebounds with Matt Kots, Kyle Magill and Will Norgaard added 4 apiece.

“First half, we played well and were right in the game. The second half we struggled with their ball pressure and couldn’t get into our offense,” said Coach Simmelink.

The C team lost a close game 18-22. Issac LaRue led Carroll with 14 points. J.T. Miller and Tyler Mattingly also add 2 points each. LaRue and Justin Lee grabbed 3 rebounds, Austin Smith with 2 and Miller, Chris James, Tristan Hardiman and Shawn Buck with 1 rebound.

“The C game was a great game to coach and fun to watch. They played well and had an great opportunity to play a lot of minutes,” praised Simmelink.

The "A" team ventured into Harlan and came up with a huge defensive stand in the last minute for a 40-38 victory. It was a great team effort on both ends of the floor. Casey Kasperbauer led the way with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and 5 assists. Hayden Ostrich, Brad Christensen and Chance Cleveland added 6 points each and Nick Onken pulled down 5 boards. The Tigers are now 2-0 and will entertain DC-G on Friday at CMS. Keep improving every practice. Everyone needs to be a threat!

The "B" team traveled to Harlan and came up short 23-34. Jeremy Grimsman lead the Tigers with 8 points with Jordan Sibenaller and Adam Grimsman adding 4 apiece. Sibenaller grabbed a team high 7 rebounds while Matt Kots pulled down 6 and Kyle Magill grabbed 4.

“A slow 1st quarter put us in a 10-0 hole right away. The guys had open shots but they simply weren't falling. We played them tough for 3 quarters and if we can put together a full 4 next time, we can come away with a win,” commented Coach Simmelink.

The Carroll 8th grade boys will host Dallas Center-Grimes Friday, November 30 at the Carroll Middle School.

11-20-2007

The "A" team opened the season with a great win over a tough Denison squad, 40-34. An excellent team effort on defense held down an experienced and improved Denison team. The Tigers were led by Casey Kasperbauer with 26 points and 6 rebounds while Chance Cleveland chipped in 6 points and 12 rebounds. Brad Steffan hit 2 big 2nd half shots and Brad Christensen pulled down 12 rebounds with 4 points. The schedule doesn't get any easier with the Harlan Cyclones up next on Monday.

The Carroll Tigers 8th grade boys B team traveled to Denison for the first game of the year and defeated the Monarchs 30-29 on Tuesday, November 20. Adam Grimsman led the Tigers with 10 points with brother Jeremy Grimsman right behind with 8. Jordan Sibenaller and Matt Kotts added 4 points each. Justin Lee, Kyle Magill and Will Norgaard lead the team with 4 rebounds each.

“It was great to come out in our first game and beat a very talented Denison team. It’s always tough starting the year by playing a team who already has played several games. We were down at the half but the boys played hard and we came out on top. As we gain more experience, I’m confident we’ll improve and cause some problems for some teams,” said coach Ryan Simmelink.
