Boone 1-25-07 The A team defeated Boone Thursday 41-22. The win ties the 8th grade boys school record of 10 wins. Taylor Ostrich led the Tigers with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Jordan Holdsworth added 10 points, Ben Leiting had 5 points with 5 rebounds, Jay Baumann had 4 points, Shawn Higgins and Nick Bierl each had 4 points, Curtis Vanderheiden pulled down 5 rebounds and Zac Trecker had 2 steals. The Tigers finished the season 10-2. The B-team played their final game of the year and came up short 20-45. Leading the Tigers was Spencer Hagen with 11 points while Eric Feldman added 4 and Adam Warner scored 3. Jacob Wenck grabbed a season-high 8 rebounds and Matt Barker pulled down 5. "We came out slow and only scored 2 points in the first half. They played much better in the second half but it was too late," said Coach Simmelink. The C-team also played their last game and won 26-22. Jacob Hannasch led in scoring with 8 points, Justin Young added 6 points and Adam Smith scored 4. Brett Clausen, Brett Funke, Jon Hoagland and Drew Paulsen all scored 2 points. Hannasch and Young led in rebounds with 5 apiece with Clausen adding 4. "It was great to see the C-team go out and win their final game. They played well and was a great way to end the season," praised Coach Simmelink. Atlantic 1-18-07 The A team defeated Atlantic 55-23. Shawn Higgins and Ben Leiting led the Tigers in scoring with 12 points each. Taylor Ostich contributed 10 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals and 5 assists. Jordan Holdsworth chipped in 6 points with 3 assists while Curtis Vanderheiden added 5 points and 6 rebounds. Ben Leiting and Jay Baumann had 6 and 4 blocked shots each.Carroll is now 9-2 with their last game coming on Thursday at home against Boone. The B-team traveled to Atlantic to take on the Trojans and came from behind to win 29-24. Leading the Tigers in scoring was Spencer Hagen with 7 points. Brandon Throckmorton and Justin Young added 6 points with Adam Warner adding 5. Hagen, Brett Funke, Eric Feldman, Throckmorton and Young all grabbed 3 rebounds. "We played an excellent last quarter. We were down but went on a 12-0 run to win the game. I'm proud of how the boys dug deep and pulled it out," praised Coach Simmelink. The Tigers with play their final game of the year on Thursday, January 25 at the Middle School. Their will be 3 full games. Kuemper 1-15-07 The A team defeated Kuemper Monday 44-33. Jordan Holdsworth and Taylor Ostrich led the Tigers in scoring with 12 and 11 points a piece. Ben Leiting added 8 points and 6 rebounds along with Shawn Higgins chipping in 7 points and 5 rebounds. Curtis Vanderheiden pulled down 6 boards to go along with 4 points. Carroll is now 8-2 with their next game on Thursday at Atlantic. The B-team took on Kuemper and lost 19-43. Spencer Hagen and Nick Nelson led the Tigers with 4 points apiece. Adam Warner scored 3 with Jon Hoagland, Joe Karstens, Adam Smith and Jacob Wenck added 2 points each. "Ball pressure hurt us and we couldn't get anything flowing. When we did, we couldn't finish," commented Coach Simmelink. The C-team also lost 14-26. Leading the way was Justin Young, Adam Smith and Jon Hoagland with 4 points each. Joe Karstens added 2. "We started off well but didn't finish," added Simmelink. Jefferson 1-8-07 The A team defeated Jefferson-Scranton Monday night 56-35. Nick Bierl had his best game of the year with 9 points and 5 rebounds. Taylor Ostrich contributed 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals, while Jordan Holdsworth chipped in 12 points, 4 steals and 4 assists. Curtis Vanderheiden added 6 points and 7 rebounds while Shawn Higgins had 3 assists and 4 points. Another great step forward, just need to work on finishing off the fast break and team defense. Carroll is now 7-2 with their next game coming on Monday against Kuemper. The B-team took on Jefferson-Scranton and came away victorious 24-19. Leading the Tigers in scoring was Spencer Hagen with 8 points followed by Adam Smith and Adam Warner with 4 points each. Matt Barker lead with 4 rebounds with Brett Clausen, Jacob Wenck and Hagen grabbing 3 each. Jon Hoaglund added 2 rebounds. “We started off slow and were down most of the 1st quarter. The boys responded and really played well to claim their second win of the season. Hopefully this will give them confidence as we have some winnable games ahead,” commented Coach Simmelink. Boone 1-4-07 The A team started off 2007 with a victory over Boone 39-15. Curtis Vanderheiden led the way with 11 points and 6 rebounds. Taylor Ostrich chipped in 10 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists. Jordan Holdsworth added 8 points, and 3 assists. Shawn Higgins and Zac Trecker has 3 steals apiece. The best team game of the year. Great ball movement and getting the ball to the open man. Still lots of room for improvement, especially on executing the fast break. Keep working hard in practice. Carroll is now 6-2 and their next game is Monday at home against Jefferson. The B-team came up short 18-25. Spencer Hagen lead the Tigers with 6 points with Michael Montgomery contributing 3. Matt Barker, Eric Feldman, Brandon Throckmorton and Adam Warner each added 2 points. Hagen and Warner each grabbed 3 rebounds while Nick Nelson, Barker and Drew Paulsen pulled down 2 each. “After the long winter break, we came out a little sluggish. We played well at times but the consistency wasn’t there,” commented Coach Simmelink. The C-team played their first full game of the year and came away with their second win 30-16. Jon Hoagland lead the C-team with 8 points. Justin Young and Adam Smith added 6 each with Jacob Hannasch with 5 points. Joe Karstens (2), Eric Feldman (2) and Drew Paulsen (1) rounded out the scoring. “The C game was a great game to coach and fun to watch. They played extremely well and had an awesome opportunity to play a full game,” praised Simmelink. Kuemper 12-18-06 The A team ended 2006 with a nice win over Kuemper 45-33. Taylor Ostrich led the team in scoring with 21 points. Jay Bauman added 9 points and 9 rebounds while Ben Leiting chipped in 6 points and 7 rebounds. Shawn Higgins picked up 6 rebounds and 4 points and Curtis Vanderheiden pulled down 5 rebounds and had 5 points. Carroll is now 5-2 and travels to Boone to start off 2007. Make sure you shoot and run over break!!! The B-team took on the Kuemper Knights and lost 10-30. Matt Barker led the Tigers with 6 points and 2 rebounds. Spencer Hagen added 4 points and 2 rebounds. Adam Warner and Justin Young also added 2 rebounds. Brandon Throckmorton had 3 steals with Michael Montgomery and Warner adding 2 each. “Kuemper’s ball pressure hurt us and we couldn’t get into our offense,” said Coach Simmelink. Harlan 12-11-06 The A team got the season sweep of Harlan last night winning 35-29. It was an excellent defensive effort by all. Jordan Holdsworth led the way with 17 points while Shawn Higgins and Jay Bauman chipped in 6 pts each. Taylor Ostrich and Ben Leiting pulled down 8 and 6 rebounds respectively. They are now 4-2 with their next game at home on Monday against crosstown rival Kuemper. Keep working as a team and try to get your teammate an easy bucket. The B team also traveled to Harlan to take on the Cyclones and were defeated 11-27. Brandon Throckmorton led the Tigers with 4 points followed by Matt Barker, Adam Smith and Jacob Wenck each adding 2 points. Eric Feldman, Brett Funke and Spencer Hagen each grabbed 2 rebounds. “Harlan came out and jumped on us early with some pressure. We didn’t match their intensity and never got into a rhythm,” said Coach Simmelink. The Tigers host Kuemper on Monday, December 18th at CMS. Denison 12-07-06 The 'A' team once again ran into an excellent Denison team and lost 36-47. Carroll was led by Taylor Ostrich with 16 points, and Jay Baumann with 8 pts and 6 rebounds. Their record is now 3-2 and the next game is on Monday at Harlan. The B team hosted Denison and lost a close game 22-27. Spencer Hagen led the way as he scored 11 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Matt Barker also added 4 points and pulled down 4 rebounds. Brett Claussen, Jon Hoagland and Adam Warner chipped in 2 points each. “We improved a lot since the first time we played Denison. We were up several times in the game but couldn’t hold on. Denison is a great team and we held our own,” commented Coach Simmelink. Jefferson 12-04-06 Carroll 8th grade boys A team defeated Jefferson 48-29. Carroll was led by Jordan Holdsworth with 18 points. Shawn Higgins chipped in 10 points and Jay Baumann added 7 points and 7 rebounds. Carroll is now 3-1 and their next game is Thursday against Denison at CMS. “It was great to see all our hard work pay off. We played well and are looking forward to continuing our success,” said Coach Simmelink. Dallas Center-Grimes 12-01-06 The A team defeated DCG 48-25 on Friday. Great job handling the ball pressure defense. It was another step forward with an excellent effort by all. Keep working to improve as a team! Jordan Holdsworth and Ben Leiting led the scoring with 14 and 12 points. Curtis Vanderdeiden pulled down 10 rebounds and had 5 points. Taylor Ostrich chipped in 8 points. Our record is now 2-1 with the next game on Monday at Jefferson. The B team hosted Dallas Center Grimes and lost 11-32. Spencer Hagen again lead the Tigers with 4 points. Adam Warner added 3 points with Eric Feldman and Jacob Hannasch adding 2 each. Matt Barker and Warner each had 3 steals. Barker pulled down 5 rebounds with Drew Paulsen adding 4. “We struggled with their ball pressure and couldn’t get into our offense. After getting down early, we couldn’t get out of our hole,” said Coach Simmelink. Harlan 11-27-06 The Carroll 8th grade boys A team got their first victory tonight at home by defeating Harlan 47-45. It was a great team effort and a big improvement from the first game. Jay Baumann lead the scoring with 13 points, Taylor Ostrich had 13 points, Jordan Holdsworth 8 pts and Ben Leiting and Shaun Higgins each had 6 points. The B team hosted Harlan and came up short 25-31. Spencer Hagen lead the Tigers with 9 points with Matthew Barker and Brett Claussen adding 4 apiece. Barker grabbed a team high 4 rebounds with Drew Paulsen pulling down 3. Adam Warner had 7 steals with Barker and Brandon Throckmorton came away with 3 steals each. "We've come a long ways since our first game. Harlan is a good team and we pushed them to the brink. A slow 4th quarter allowed Harlan to take us at the end. If we continue to improve, we'll be able to get quite a few wins," praised coach Simmelink. The next game will be on Friday against Dallas Center-Grimes at CMS. Bring that same effort and look to take another step forward. Denison 11-21-06 The Carroll 8th grade boys A team lost to a tough Denison team 28-43. Jordan Holdsworth lead the scoring with 10 points, Taylor Ostrich chipped in 6 pts and Ben Leiting had 4 pts. It was a great effort for the first game of the year. The B team also was defeated by the Monarchs 21- 38. Adam Warner led the Tigers with 7 points. Brandon Throckmorton and Matt Barker added 3 points each. Warner again led the team with 5 rebounds while Jacob Wenck grabbed 3. Jacob Hannasch and Drew Paulsen each pulled down 2 rebounds. Both Eric Feldman and Adam Warner had 2 steals. “First game jitters led to a slow start but we played them to a 13-15 2nd half. It’s tough starting the year by playing a talented Denison team who already played 5 games. As we gain more experience, I’m confident we’ll improve and cause some problems for some teams,” said coach Ryan Simmelink. The Carroll 8th grade boys will host the Harlan Cyclones Monday, November 27 at the Carroll Middle School. |
