Important Facts
  • William came to the United States with his brother Frederick, and mother Margaretha. They arrived in New York on Feb. 26, 1875 on the "Suevia" which sailed from Hamburg and Havre.
  • Their father was said to be deceased when the left. An older daughter also stayed in Germany. No information is known about their hometown in Germany.
  • William and Margaretha lived in Lyon County, near Inwood, Iowa. The family moved to Rock Rapids when John was 7 years old and lived there until 1913 when they moved to Watertown, South Dakota. Here they bought a farm, but lived there only 1 year when they sold the farm and moved to Sioux City, Iowa.
