Facts
- Frederick Wilhelm Notbohm was born in Holzminden, Germany to Heinrich August Notbohm and Julie Junhaus. He spent the first 28 years of his life there.
- In 1848 Frederick and his 2 sisters, Caroline and
Wilhelmina, boarded a ship to leave for the United
States. Too avoid detection, Frederick stowed away in a
large walnut chest.
- After arriving in New York they traveled to Chicago.
There Frederick met Doretta and the were married in 1850.
- In 1854, the family left Chicago and settled in Otter
Creek Township, in Linn County, Iowa.
- Frederick and Margaretta were married in 1879 and
moved to a farm northeast of Sumner, Iowa in 1885. In
1911, they moved into town.
