Facts
- Matthew Leyh was born in 1828 in Neuses, Germany. He
spent his early youth there and had one brother who was
said to be tall. He came to America in 1853 when he was
25 and settled in Aurora, Illinois.
- Margareta Wolf was born in 1833 in Schuszbach,
Germany. She came to America in 1857 and settled near
Aurora as well.
- In 1858 Matthew and Margareta were married and moved
to Banks Township in Fayette County, Iowa. They purchased
land and farmed for 36 years.
- They were blessed with nine children, 6 son's and 3
daughter's.
