CALCULUS RESEARCH PROJECT 2007
In an effort to get you acquainted with some of the recent developments in the area of mathematics, you and a partner will develop a PowerPoint presentation on a recent development (within the last 15 years) in mathematics.
Step 1:
-Research and find a recent development in the area of mathematics.
-Obtain approval of your topic from Mr. Duhrkopf. This assignment can be completed individually or in pairs.
Step 2:
-Complete more in-depth research on your development looking to answer the following: who, what, where, when, why and how as it relates to your topic.
Step 3:
-Develop a PowerPoint presentation that explains your topic to the class.
-The presentation must be done in PowerPoint and must include the following:
-Title page (include your names, year, and topic)
-Description of the development and who is responsible.
-Relevance of the development
-Source page – minimum of 2 sources
***Check the presentation rubric for more specifics
Step 4:
-When you complete your PowerPoint please copy it to my junk drive.
Step 5:
-Complete 2 peer evaluations and turn into Mr. Duhrkopf.
Grading and Due Dates
Project: 50 pts (Tests)
Peer Evaluations: 10 pts (Tests)
Thursday, May 3rd: Research begins
Wednesday, May 9th: Powerpoint due to Mr. Duhrkopf
Monday, May 14th: Peer Evaluations due to Mr. Duhrkopf
***We will be spending the next 3-4 class periods in the lab, media center or my room. You are expected to be doing research for your project. You will need to do research and presentation development outside the classroom.

CALCULUS RESEARCH PROJECT 2005
In an effort to get you acquainted with some of the recent developments in the area of mathematics I would like you to find a topic involving the use of mathematics in the real world. I have listed some of the topics that have been looked at in the past, but this is not an inclusive list. If you find something of interest please let me know and I will determine if it is appropriate for the assignment.
Step 1:
-Research and find a topic of interest involving the current use of mathematics.
-Obtain approval of your topic from Mr. Duhrkopf. This assignment can be completed individually or in pairs.
Step 2:
-Complete more in-depth research on your topic looking to answer the following: who, what, where, when, why and how as it relates to your topic.
Step 3:
-Construct an oral PowerPoint presentation that explains your topic to the class.
-The presentation must be done in PowerPoint and must include the following:
-Title page
-Topic description
-Topic relevance
-Source page – minimum of 3 sources

Step 4:
-Present your topic to the class. The presentation should be at least 5 minutes long. Let me know your computer and video needs in advance!
-Everyone in the group should participate in the presentation and be prepared to answer questions and receive feedback.
-When you complete your PowerPoint please copy it to my Calculus folder on Server-8.
Grading and Due Dates
Project: 100 pts (Tests)
Thursday, May 5th: Topic approved by Mr. Duhrkopf
Monday, May 9th: Presentations will start according to the schedule provided later
