1. If you are
planning on buying a used instrument you must be very careful as there
is a lot of "JUNK" out there. To be safe, I
will be happy to look at the instrument and tell you if it worth the
money they are asking.
2. Please beware of
purchasing instruments out of Department store catalogs or off
ebay. Some of these are more like glorified toys, if they break
down or need a repair the music stores will not be able to fix them and
you are on your own. Please call if you have any questions.
3. For FLUTES
we ask for only "OPENED-HOLED" flutes to assure
proper hand position.
4. PERCUSSION--if you are
interested in percussion, we must advise you that it is the most
difficult section of the band, as you will be learning many different
instruments. It is strongly recommended that you have a minimum
of 2 years of private piano instruction and continued lessons, to
insure success in playing percussion. All percussion students
will be expected to be proficient in the mallet instruments (bells,
etc.).
In relation to the future, to
be very much assured of playing in the Jazz Band, be aware that you
should select to play TROMBONE, BARITONE, TUBA, TRUMPET, OR FRENCH
HORN. The other instruments that are available are FLUTES,
CLARINETS, SAXOPHONE and OBOES.
