Benefits
of Instrumental Music
The Gemeinhardt Company, a manufacturer of flutes and
piccolos, recently completed a year long research project in which
parents of band members were asked to list the major benefits they felt
their child had received by being in the band program in their
school. The following seventeen benefits were listed by 50
percent or more of all parents participating in this
project.
1. Band
provides a sense of accomplishment.
2. Band is learning responsibility.
3. Band provides teamwork experience.
4. Band teaches discipline.
5. Band provides self-esteem and satisfaction.
6. Band is fun.
7. "Good group of kids in band."
8. Band adds to the quality of a student's life.
9. Band provides a child the opportunity to gain an identity.
10. "No one sits on the bench in band."
11. Band teaches deep appreciation of music as an art form.
12. Band provides lasting friendships.
13. Band provides a variety of activities.
14. Band teaches young people to make decisions.
15. Band provides opportunities to learn leadership qualities.
16. Band helps young people overcome shyness.
17. Band provides better parent-child relationships.
Each of you, as a parent of a prospective fifth
grader, may provide your child with the opportunity to explore the
possibility of participating in the band program. The Carroll
Community School Band program is continually building and maintaining a
tradition of excellence. Both the Middle School and the High
School have received many recognitions and honors throughout the
years. We would like to have your child be apart of this
tradition and experience some or all the benefits listed above.
