GIFTED AND TALENTED DEFINITION
Gifted and talented children are those identified by professionally qualified persons who by virtue of outstanding abilities are capable of high performance. These are children who require differentiated educational programs and/or services beyond those normally provided by the regular school program in order to realize their contribution to self and society.
SPECIFIC AREAS OF GIFTEDNESS TO BE SERVED
1. Intellectual Ability
2. Specific Academics
GRADE LEVELS
The Carroll Community School District's Gifted and Talented Plan includes students kindergarten through grade twelve.
PHILOSOPHY:
The philosophy of the Carroll Community School District's Gifted and Talented Program is to meet the diversified cognitive, emotional, and social needs of gifted and talented students regardless of gender, ethnic origin, socioeconomic status, or physical ability. As the needs of the gifted are met, students will develop into autonomous learners with the abilities to be responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of their own learning.
GOALS
The students of the Gifted and Talented Program should be able to:
* Understand their giftedness and how it affects them and others.
* Develop cognitive, social, and emotional skills necessary for becoming autonomous learners.
* Explore areas of interest, related areas, and new unrelated areas.
* Participate in opportunities to exchange ideas and viewpoints with other gifted and talented students.
* Develop a self-selected course of study.
